Association's FIRST secretary
Ann Gretton, the Association's first secretary remembers being snowed under with paperwork.
"My conservatory was effectively the national office, with one manual typewriter and a telephone. Once people found out the Association existed the phone rarely stopped ringing and the correspondence became immense.
"We knew we had exposed a desperate need - people affected by MND contacted us at all hours. I even had a call in the middle of the night from an Australian patient, delighted to know that we worked a 24- hour shift."
