About Motor Neurone Disease

"MND is not incurable. We are making real progress but we need more money. We need to understand what causes MND in order to develop new treatments that will stop the disease in its tracks.”

Chris Shaw, Professor of Neurology & Neurogenetics at King’s College Hospital London.

MND is a disease without a cure

Lucy, who sadly died from MND, with her mum CaroleThere’s no cure because scientists are still working hard to understand the cause of MND.

With dedicated research effective treatments and a cure will be possible – and that costs money.

MND leaves people locked in a failing body, unable to move, walk or talk

Currently there is no effective diagnostic test. There is only one treatment licenced for MND and this doesn’t stop the disease progressing and is not a cure.

Life is short from diagnosis onwards – just 14 months on average. People with MND need a huge amount of courage and determination and massive amounts of care and support.

About the MND Association

The MND Association exists to make the needs of people with MND heard, give practical help and support, and we’re at the forefront of research through our funding programmes.

dunk-it! to end MND is one of our campaigns to raise awareness and money to help deliver care today, develop new treatments tomorrow and develop a cure in the future.
