Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups (SIG) have a primary focus of education in its broadest sense. They may be small locally-based groups or larger, more regionally focused. The purpose of SIG:

  • support and act as a resource to Health and Social Care Professionals working with people affected by MND
  • provide an educational format to promote good practise in clinical and management interventions and models of care
  • encourage understanding about professional roles and relevant contributions to the management of people affected by MND
  • facilitate a problem-solving approach to specific management issues
  • promote enhanced communication and liaison and integrated care at a local level
  • promote partnership working between health, social services and voluntary agencies to make the best use of resources and expertise

Response Teams/Patient Review Forums

A variety of names are given to these groups in different localities but they all focus specifically on patient care in a particular geographical area, and will meet with the primary aim of co-ordinating specific care for named people in that area. The groups may well include speakers or discussions in their meetings, but the primary focus is patient care.
