Northants Cricket chooses MND Association as charity of the year
At the launch of the new season Northamptonshire County Cricket Club announced that it had chosen the Motor Neurone Disease Association as its charity of the year for 2009.
The launch at the County Ground featured a speech from Ashley Morgan who outlined her experiences since being diagnosed with the disease.
Donations and funds raised by the club and its supporters will go towards supporting those affected by the disease.The charity’s logo is also included on the front of the new training kit.The club is already planning a wide range of fundraising activities, including the MND Association’s next Firewalk Challenge which will be held at the ground on Saturday 14 November 2009.
Mark Tagg, Northamptonshire County Cricket Club’s chief executive, said “Northants Cricket and our players are delighted to enhance our relationship with our local charity and will be proud to wear the new MND Association logo on our training shirts.
"Cricket is followed by a large and varied audience from young children to the old and infirm and we hope that through this we can help spread the awareness of the good works of the Association in supporting the effects of this awful disease.
"At a time when we are watching the cricketers fine tune their own athletic skills in readiness for the new season, working together with the MND Association helps us remember that this disease can affect anyone at any time and that we should never take our own fitness for granted.”
