Equipment Provision

In the middle of 2006 the Government announced a review of community equipment and wheelchair services. Initially there was going to be a single review of these services. However there will now be two separate reviews, as it is felt that the concerns around wheelchair services are so great as to warrant a separate review.
A heavy emphasis has been placed on the service quality to the users and examples of good practice to be shared. The review will lead to a model being put forward and a business case being made. The reviews will still aim to have greater charity involvement in the delivery of service.

Concerns/Comments

Our main concern has been that various groups were going to be set up that would have regular meetings. These groups would have fed into the review. Unfortunately this appears not to have happened.

Timetable for implementation

It is anticipated that the changes identified by the review will be introduced by Spring 2007. It is hoped that the review will help all the parts that make up community equipment provision and wheelchair services to work more effectively together.

What the MND Association has done

Various workshops were set up to cover community equipment. These covered users, suppliers, practitioners and providers. We had representatives that attend some of these workshops.
