Mobile Phone Recycling At Work
In the UK alone we replace 15 million mobile phone handsets every year. Fewer than 10% are recycled with an estimated 100 million being left to gather dust in people's drawers.
For every mobile phone you collect and recycle through our scheme we will receive £3.50!
Eventually many of these mobiles will find their way into rubbish bins. Phones discarded in landfill sites can leak cadmium, lithium and mercury into the earth. A phone's printed circuit board often contains poisonous lead solder and the casing can give off toxic fumes when incinerated in a waste transfer station.
Your company can help!

Mobile phone handsets can be refurbished or recycled, which is good news for the environment and good news for the MND Association! For every mobile phone you collect and recycle through our scheme we will receive £3.50 regardless of the condition.
You can collect ...
- company issue mobile phones
- personal mobiles from you colleagues
- mobiles from friends, family and neighbours
You can now donate your phone on the internet!
Donating your unwanted mobile phone on the internet is simple, visit www.shpforcharity.co.uk. Follow the instructions to have your phone valued and then choose a percentage of this valuation to donate to the MND Association. This way of donating phones is ideal if you have a phone which might be worth alot more than £3.50.
Richard Bowden, Head of shp Charity, says
“Our new on line recycling facility makes it easier for people to support their favourite charities, simply by getting rid of an old phone that may have been thrown aside and forgotten about. The money raised from that phone could help to save a life or help a sick child so why keep it when it could do so much good?’’
How to do it
Simply set up collection points and invite colleagues via posters, e-mail or the intranet to drop off their redundant mobiles. When you have collected at least 10, contact the MND Association Corporate Fundraising team to arrange for a courier to pick them up.
Alternatively, phones may be sent using our freepost envelopes, which are useful to hand out or send to people you don't see as often.
Please call the Corporate Fundraising team on 01604 611888 or e-mail corporate@mndassociation.org.
