Nick Allott Tribute Fund

Julia Allott set up a Tribute Fund in memory of her husband, Nick.
"When Nick died, everyone turned to the Tribute Fund."

The 40-year-old rugby player was diagnosed with MND in 2000. Over time Nick completely lost the ability to speak and move.

In the last few months of his life he could only communicate with Julia and their two young daughters using a chart, where he looked at letters to spell out what he wanted to say.

Sadly Nick died in 2004, but his memory has lived on through the Nick Allott Tribute Fund. Julia said: “When Nick was alive, his friends felt there was nothing they could do to help. That’s one of the reasons why MND is so cruel. It makes you feel so helpless.

“So when Nick died, everyone turned to the Tribute Fund. His rugby friends organised charity cricket matches and collected donations at the local school.

“It was their way of doing something to remember Nick and at the same time help others still living with MND.”
