Congratulations Ann!
We would like to send many congratulations and thanks to Ann from the West Kent Branch who received a Kent County Council Welfare & Disability award for her work as an Association visitor. Ann has been an Association visitor since 1988.
There were several hundred nominations in the category and Ann was one of three winners! She also received £400 for the branch. Ann said: "For me, it’s a team win, thanks to everyone in the West Kent Branch. I’ve got backing from a good committee and other Association visitors. You can’t work in isolation, but it is rewarding to have a mention".
This success reflects not only on the West Kent Branch but on all the hard work our volunteers put in all over the country. Many thanks for all your work Ann, and congratulations!
Congratulations Diego!
Diego, an Association visitor in South London, won an award sponsored by Abbey National for University College London (UCL) students. The award celebrates the notable non-academic achievements or activities of students.
Diego was nominated by Dr Ruth Tatevossian who has worked with Diego for four years. Ruth said: "I think that Diego has shown extraordinary dedication to become an active Association visitor while working full-time in scientific research."
Diego has been an Association visitor for two years and had no previous experience of MND before becoming involved as a volunteer.
John, one of a number of people living with MND that Diego has supported, said: "I was diagnosed with MND in 2001. I'm getting weaker and things are getting more difficult, but having Diego come to visit and talk on the phone makes a real difference. Sometimes we talk about MND and he gets things sorted for me as soon as I ask, but other times we talk for an hour about other things - putting the world to rights!
"It makes a huge impact having someone outside of my family who I know I can talk to and share things with; he is more than a friend, much, much more."
Congratulations Diego!
