Victoria describes her mother Brenda's brave battle with MND. Brenda died aged 61 at the Prospect Hospice in Swindon. My mum was diagnosed with MND in November 2006. She had been experiencing trouble with her speech for a short while and had been to see a number of doctors and underwent test after test before finally being diagnosed. That day was a dark day as the doctor confirmed her deepest fears and it came as a huge shock to whole family.
After that day however, she battled on and showed everyone what strength of character she had. She fought to the bitter end even when she had lost her speech and the use of her whole body. It was so hard seeing such an independent woman being stripped of everything she had worked so hard for and I cannot begin to imagine what she must have been feeling.
She was sadly taken from us in March this year and I am still amazed just how brave she was. She always had a smile even when I know she must have been suffering such turmoil. I want her memory to live on and hope someday there is a cure for this terrible disease.
