NHS Charges - Wales

NHS prescription charges were abolished at the end of March 2007, for people living in Wales.

  • All patients registered with a Welsh GP, who get their prescriptions from a Welsh pharmacist, are entitled to free prescriptions.
  • Welsh patients who have an English GP but get their prescriptions from a Welsh pharmacist, are also entitled to free prescriptions. People should present their prescription with an accompanying entitlement card.

Charges for wigs and appliances have also been abolished in Wales. Patients receiving these services from an English NHS Trust should have their costs met by their Local Health Board.
