The Social Fund

The Social Fund provides lump sum payments, grants and loans for important costs that you are finding difficult to pay for. Loans and Community Care Grants from the Social Fund are discretionary and are administered by Jobcentre Plus.

Community Care Grants

A Community Care Grant is awarded for the purpose of meeting a need for community care. If you are awarded a Community Care Grant you do not have to pay it back. There are many different circumstances for which a grant can be made. These include:

•helping you to return to the community following a stay in institutional or residential accommodation where you received care
•helping you to stay in the community rather than enter institutional or residential accommodation where you would receive care
•to ease exceptional pressures on you and your family
•to help with certain travel costs

Eligibility
You may be eligible for a Community Care Grant if you are receiving Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, or Pension Credit. Contact your local Jobcentre Plus to find out if you qualify.
