The benefits system is complicated. Claiming can be difficult and time-consuming. If you are not sure whether you can claim, get advice from your local Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB), the MND Connect Team, or your local carers' organisation.
Here are some of the benefits you may be entitled to claim:
Carer’s Allowance is the main benefit for carers.
The carer premium and addition are extra amounts used in the calculation of some means-tested benefits.
Direct payments can be made to carers who have been assessed as needing help from social services.
If you care for someone with a severe disability, and find that your needs are not being fully met you may be eligible for help from the Independent Living Fund.
This new National Insurance credit enables carers to build up qualifying years towards their basic state pension and additional State Pension.
