Benefits and Financial Help

The benefits system is complicated. Claiming can be difficult and time-consuming. If you are not sure whether you can claim, get advice from your local Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB), the MND Connect Team, or your local carers' organisation.

Carers Allowance

Carer’s Allowance is the main benefit for carers.

Carers Premium/Additions

The carer premium and addition are extra amounts used in the calculation of some means-tested benefits.

Direct Payments for Carers

Direct payments can be made to carers who have been assessed as needing help from social services.

Independent Living Fund (ILF)

If you care for someone with a severe disability, and find that your needs are not being fully met you may be eligible for help from the Independent Living Fund.
