Motoring

The hints and tips on this page have been submitted by people living with MND and are not as such endorsed by the MND Association. We would always recommend you consult a relevant Health Professional before trying any pieces of equipment or medications/treatments.

Car Seat

Placing a black bin liner on a car seat makes it easier to swivel round.

Driving licence regulations

People who have been diagnosed with MND, have a duty to notify the DVLA of their condition. A diagnosis is not a bar to driving, but the DVLA may ask for a medical report from your GP. The DVLA may issue a time restrictive licence and/or may ask you to attend a driving assessment. This largely depends on information provided by your GP about how your condition is affecting you.

Powered wheelchairs and mobility scooters

The 2007 version of the highway code has recently been issued. A new section explaining the rules and regulations for powered wheelchair/mobility scooter use on the road and the pavement, is now included.
