Complementary Therapies

Complementary therapies work in conjunction with conventional medicine. The treatments are becoming increasingly available on the NHS, with many general practices providing access to complementary therapy. Many of the therapies concentrate on relieving stress and anxiety by relaxing the mind and body.
Individual therapies have been proven to improve the quality of life for many people with MND, these can include:
- Acupuncture
- Aromatherapy
- Homeopathy
- Hypnotherapy
- Massage
- Meditation
- Reiki
- Reflexology
Consult your GP
Before considering any of the complementary therapies available, it is important to talk to your GP first, to double check that any additional treatment undertaken will not adversely affect any current treatment programme.
It is also very important that an experienced registered practitioner carries out any treatment. Details of qualified practitioners can be obtained by contacting the relevant governing bodies. Recommendations for therapists can sometimes be obtained from health centres, a local hospice or GP surgery.
