Carers Week annual survey launched
The fourteenth annual Carers Week (9-15 June 2008) will highlight the impact caring can have on carers' health and wellbeing. Work towards Carers Week starts with the launch of its annual survey.
Carers Week wants to hear about carers' experiences; the rewards and the frustrations, and the effect on their health. What are the implications for carers, as well as those they care for?
Carers Week is organised by ten leading charities, including the Neurological Alliance, to support the UK’s six million carers. Dr Kirstine Knox, Chief Executive of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, is the Chair of the Neurological Alliance.
Last year 1,115 local partners organised more than 6,000 events and activities to raise awareness of the issues affecting the UK's carers. In 2008 the aim is for the number to be even greater.
Key aims for Carers Week are to:
- Highlight and celebrate the contribution made by carers
- Campaign for better support and services for carers
- Promote policies and best practice that can improve carers’ quality of life
- Reach out to ‘hidden’ carers, ensuring they know where to find help and support.
