Human cloning scientist resigns – MND Association statement
23 December 2005
In response to news that Dr Hwang Woo-suk has resigned from Seoul National University over “fabricated” results, Dr Brian Dickie, Director of Research Development at the MND Association, said:
“This is very disappointing, and does set back research that could lead to effective treatments for Motor Neurone Disease. However, we believe the scientific rationale behind therapeutic cloning is sound, and that it still offers a significant opportunity for achieving a breakthrough in research into MND and other degenerative conditions.
“Maintaining appropriate standards in science is essential, and we agree entirely with the University’s concerns and criticisms.”
