A TV documentary following the life of a man with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), has won a prestigious award.

Trapped Inside My Body received the bronze award in the Best Regional TV Documentary category at the ITV News Awards 2006.

The two-part documentary, filmed by True North Productions, was aired last October. It featured John Bell and his family as they struggled to come to terms with the devastating effects of MND.

Julie Beanland, Producer at True North Productions and Director of Trapped Inside My Body, said: “It was a great privilege to meet John and his family. I was incredibly moved by their courage and am delighted that their story has won this award.”

John Bell has remained committed to raising awareness on behalf of the MND Association and has since fronted a major advertising campaign called John's Journey.

Sarah Fitzgerald, Head of PR and Media, said: “John and his family have dedicated so much of the little time they have left to raising awareness of MND.

“We are cannot thank them enough for their unfaltering support, and are thrilled that their documentary has been honoured with an award.”
