Dunkin’ in the Gherkin

15 August 2008
dunk-it! event at the Gherkin One of London’s most iconic buildings was the setting for a dunk-it! event that proved so popular there was a waiting list as the event completely sold out.

The dunk-it! event was organised by Elizabeth Rogula and Barbara Merry on behalf of the Lloyd’s Forum which is a networking group for senior women in the Lloyd’s and London insurance market.

Coutts bank very kindly agreed to host the evening and Gill Bruce from Coutts worked with Elizabeth and Barbara to bring the event together in order to raise money and awareness to support the work of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.

The ladies used their connections in the City to gather together people from over 40 companies, who were able to network, enjoy the view and dunk their strawberries in the luxury, specialised chocolate fountain.

Speaking at the event, Elizabeth Rogula, Operations Director of Lloyds Japan said: "The Lloyd’s Forum celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2008 and we wanted to do something to commemorate this.

"The dunk-it! campaign appealed to us as it was supporting a charity that we have been involved with since the MND Association's Chief Executive Kirstine Knox was invited as a guest speaker in 2006. When we told our guests that the event would be raising money for charity and would include strawberries and a chocolate fountain we knew we were onto a winner!’

Chief Executive Kirstine Knox said: “Our dunk-it! to end MND campaign has only just launched and already it seems to have captured the imagination of many. The ladies and their guests raised nearly £4,000 which will be invested in providing care and support for people with MND.

“On behalf of everyone at the Association I would like to thank them dearly for all their hard work. People like Gill, Elizabeth and Barbara enable us to continue our efforts in helping people to live with this devastating disease.”
