Welcome from the ALS Society of Canada
The ALS Society of Canada is honoured to be host to the 18th International Symposium on ALS/MND in Toronto, Ontario on December 1-3, 2007.
ALS Canada has been the voice of ALS research in Canada since our beginnings 30 years ago. We enjoy a unique partnership with our 10 provincial ALS Societies across Canada, wherein ALS Canada is responsible for funding research into the disease and the provincial ALS societies provide services directly to their constituents. We collaborate in the raising of funds for research and all such funds flow directly to ALS Canada to support our mandate.
ALS research in Canada has benefited from a growing number of researchers and clinicians who have focused their efforts in the field over the past 20 years. Canada lays claim to a large number of world-respected ALS scientists, most of whom will be presenting and participating in the International Symposium. A growing number of young researchers are being encouraged to enter the field through funding opportunities made available by ALS Canada.
The challenge for the ALS community everywhere is to make its voice heard over the clamour of the many other serious diseases that afflict people. The 18th International Symposium on ALS/MND will have a significant impact on the awareness of Canadians with respect to ALS. It will bring hundreds of scientists to Toronto and we will use this opportunity to inform and educate the public and media regarding the debilitating nature of ALS.
Easily reached from anywhere in the world, Toronto is the largest city in Canada. It is a clean, safe cosmopolitan city that melds many different cultures, architecture, art, cuisine, theatres, museums, and art galleries into an exciting experience to take home with you and remember for many years to come. We invite you here to visit, learn, share, contribute and network with others around the world interested in the care and cure of ALS.
