Welcome from the MND Association of England, Wales and Northern Ireland
The MND Association has long been proud to be the organiser of the annual International Symposium on ALS/MND. In 2008 we have the added privilege of also hosting this event.
November 2008 will see the International Symposium come home to the UK, where it began almost 20 years ago with just 40 delegates. These days, the event attracts in excess of 800 individuals from the MND scientific and clinical research communities.
The MND Association has a vision of a world free of MND. We want to play a key role in ending the disease, and by organising and hosting the 19th International Symposium, we hope to bring closer the day when no one has to live with MND’s devastating impact.
The Association also has a mission to improve the care received by people with MND in the here and now, and research is an important element in understanding how to better care for people with MND. The Symposium boasts clinical as well as scientific sessions, so that experts in both the scientific and the clinical fields can share their latest findings and examples of good practice.
Many of the world’s leading MND scientific and clinical researchers are based in the UK, and we look forward to welcoming them, alongside their international counterparts, to this premier annual gathering.
We are also honoured to be hosting the 16th annual meeting of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations. This event brings together representatives of organisations worldwide who have pledged to fight MND by raising awareness, improving care and promoting research.
Birmingham, Britain’s second largest city, is situated in the heart of England, perfect as a base for seeing more of this historic and beautiful country. Birmingham itself offers a wealth of things to see and do, and boasts a reputation as a city of world class culture.
The MND Association looks forward to welcoming you to the 19th International Symposium.
