More about summary applications

Research proposals are initially considered in outline (summary) and a full application may be invited thereafter.

Applicants need to make an initial approach by submitting a 2-3 page summary to Marion Reichle or Natasha Rowe according to the guidelines below. Deadlines for summary applications are given on the pages describing the specific types of grant.

Please note: there is no proforma for summary applications.

Overseas applications will only be accepted for Research Project Grants. provided they meet the criteria to be considered for overseas funding.  Further information is included in the Conditions of these grants.

Guidelines for submitting summary applications

Applicants need to make the initial approach, indicating:

  • its relevance to 'classical' MND (i.e. ALS, PMA, PLS. Other conditions will only be considered if a case for the potential benefit to these conditions can be demonstrated)
  • an outline of the proposed workplan
  • the aim(s) of the research
  • the potential clinical and/or translational relevance of the research
  • approximate cost and time scale
  • where the study fits in with other work within the laboratory/institute
  • (For Studentships: The principle applicant must have demonstratable experience of supervising PhD students)

When will I hear about the Summary?

After consultation with its Biomedical Research Advisory Panel, the MND Association will normally respond within 4 weeks, to advise whether submission of a full application is appropriate.
