More about PhD Studentships
Duration: Awards will be offered for three years to allow registered students to undertake full-time research for a PhD.
Finances: From October 2009, the Association will provide a student stipend of £15,000 for the first year (£16,000 in London), which will be increased in £500 increments for each of the following two years. The Association will also provide £7,500 per annum for laboratory expenses and a total budget of £1,000, over three years, for conference attendance. The Association will cover relevant tuition/bench fees for UK students.
Conditions: Studentship applications are invited from prospective supervisors, based in UK laboratories. Collaborative projects between departments are welcomed, provided the relative roles of the supervisors and departments are addressed. Supervisors should recruit and nominate the student of their choice (subject to MND Association approval). Students should hold, or expect to obtain, a first or upper second class honours degree
Assessment: Applications will be assessed on the following key criteria:-
- novelty
- scientific merit
- relevance to 'classical' MND
- the potential clinical and/or translational relevance of the research
- the value of the research training offered. Supervisors should have demonstrable experience of postgraduate student supervision.
Please note that we have identified specific priorities for health & social care research grants. We are currently funding projects addressing these priorities and are not currently inviting grant applications for health & social care research.
Timing: Successful applicants will be notified in autmun of the grant application year, to allow recruitment for projects commencing the following October.
