How are the DNA Bank samples being used?
At the end of 2006, it was agreed that 1,000 samples from the DNA bank would be used in a 'whole genome scan' project.
This project will narrow the search for genes that contribute to MND to a few 'hot spots' which can then be carefully searched, letter by letter, for disease-related spelling mistakes. It is a collaborative project between King's College London and the University of Harvard, Boston, USA.
Several presentations at the 17th International Symposium on ALS/MND demonstrated the value of using whole genome scan technology in understanding the causes of MND
