Research governance

In 2009 the MND Association began the implementation of new processes regarding the application and awarding of biomedical research grants, described in our research governance overview document.

Research governance overview document

Improvements to our processes were made following a review of our research governance, under the guidance of Professor James Lowe, chair of our Biomedical Research Advisory Panel (BRAP). This review culiminated in the publication of our research governance overview. The purpose of the Research governance overview (209 kb) [pdf] document is to inform applicants and members of the BRAP about the relevant policies and procedures in relation to research funding.

Research we fund

The MND Association funds research:

  • to identify the causes of MND,
  • focussing on research of direct clinical and therapeutic relevance
  • Clinical and healthcare research to improve standards of care and quality of life for people with MND

This is realised through a number of funding schemes, please see the Information for researchers for more information.
