Stanley ‘Mac’ McMurtry MBE

Stanley McMurtry was born in Edinburgh in 1936 before moving with his family to Birmingham where he studied at Birmingham College of Art.

Stanley adopted the pen name "Mac" while working as a cartoonist for the Daily Sketch in the 1960s. That publication was absorbed by the Daily Mail in 1971, where he worked right up until last year!

In most of his daily cartoons, Mac included a small portrait of his wife Liz hidden within the picture. In 2017 Mac sadly lost Liz to motor neurone disease after 15 years of marriage.
