Changes to guidance in England for people shielding from COVID-19
Today the Government has announced changes to guidance in England for people shielding from COVID-19. These changes will be introduced in two stages – from 6 July and 1 August. You can read the statement here.
We know there has been concern and uncertainty within the MND community about when and how lockdown will begin to ease, safely, for those shielding. Today’s announcement goes some way to addressing those issues but concerns will remain. It is therefore important that the Government follows its announcement on the future of shielding with extremely clear guidance, advice and sufficient resources ensuring people at increased risk of the effects of COVID-19 can continue to protect themselves.
It is also important at this stage that the Government takes into account the ongoing concerns of individuals and organisations as we approach the implementation dates.
As such, the MND Association will continue to engage with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to relay our questions and concerns, and the potential impact they may have for people living with MND and their families. We will also consult our clinical panel to seek their guidance and advice.
In the meantime, people living with MND and their families can continue to access information and help from us in relation to Coronavirus via our website and our helpline MND Connect on 0808 802 6262 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
