Location, location, location!
Every year the Clwyd Branch invite people with MND and the carers to attend their Summer Lunch event. The lunch is a perfect opportunity for people to come together and share experiences in a relaxed and welcoming setting. However, over the past few years the branch has seen the numbers of people attending decline and as a result for this year’s lunch, with the support of Kevin Thomas, RCDA, and Jo Cunnah, VDC, they decided to try something different.
Firstly, the location was changed to a more central point in the geographical area the branch supports. This meant that the event would be more accessible to people with MND and their carers living across the whole Clwyd area. Secondly, a flyer was produced to advertise the lunch that looked both welcoming and inviting and was used to promote the event through social media, online contacts and support meetings.
Jo Cunnah, Volunteering Development Co-ordinator (VDC), said: “I am absolutely delighted to say that making these small changes certainly paid off as on Saturday 15 August the Clwyd Branch welcomed 34 people to their Summer Lunch in Prestatyn. This was by far the best attended lunch the branch have ever hosted and a fantastic example of staff and volunteers working together to provide that much needed support.”
Roger Sowersby who has MND and who attended the event said: “An enjoyable informal occasion for those effected by MND, which allowed me to both renew old friendships and also to form many new ones.”
It was a very special day for everyone that attended and the branch are keen to build on its success for future events with Dorothy Smith, Branch Secretary, adding: “What a great day meeting new and old faces at our summer lunch, I would like to thank everyone for coming and hope to see you all at the Christmas lunch.”
