Easy Fundraising

It’s now even easier to raise funds for our branch.  When shopping on line go to where you can shop in a variety of stores including major supermarkets, department stores, Amazon, Argos, P & O Ferries, Travelodge and more.  Just remember to go via the EasyFundraising website rather than the individual store and when you purchase goods, MNDA East Sussex Branch will receive a donation.  It’s that simple and doesn’t cost you a penny.  Just follow this link:

Night of 100 Voices

The near capacity audience at The King’s Church in Burgess Hill rose to their feet after the final chord of You’ll Never Walk Alone as 100 singers took their bow.

night of 100 voices

The concert was organised by Burgess Hill businesswoman Susan Fleet in memory of Rick Peckham with the aim of raising funds for Motor Neurone Disease.  Rick, stepfather of television and radio presenter Zoe Ball, sadly lost his fight to the condition at the end of 2012.

Night of 100 Voices also marked the 45th anniversary of Susan Fleet’s fundraising concerts and the choir boasted three singers from her first charity performance in 1970.   She has staged on average four concerts every years since.

In charge of the baton was musical director Richard Haslam who trained the singers on little more than six hours of rehearsal.  Tim Nail was the accompanist and television presenter, opera singer and wine buff Charles Metcalfe was an excellent MC.

The programme included a medley of songs from Les Miserables and Oliver as well as perennial classics such as Tonight and Some Enchanted Evening, the concert also saw some outstanding solo performances.  Andrew Rees, a tenor who has performed as a soloist at Glyndebourne and is a regular at the Royal Opera House; swing singer Duncan Allen whose rendition of New York New York encouraged audience and choir alike to join in and produce high leg kicks, and sisters Laura & Emily Loutit who performed two stunning duets from popular musicals.

Susan said: “The atmosphere throughout the evening was amazing – everyone seemed to be enjoying the wide range of music and more importantly we raised in excess of £8,000 for the East Sussex branch of the MND Association, which was the intention of staging the concert.

Mayor of Burgess Hill, Cllr Anne Jones MBE enthusiastically thanked all the singers and paid a moving tribute to Susan Fleet’s dedication to charity fundraising. Julia Peckham spoke passionately about her experience of MND and her decision to train as a counsellor to help other families cope with the disease.

For anyone who missed the evening, there will shortly be a professional DVD of the entire concert available at a price of £12.95 or £19.95 for Blu-Ray.
