Carers groups and events
It's important to take a little break. You may wish to spend some time talking to people who understand what you're going through or join an information event or discussion on a specific topic led by a facilitator.
Here you will find groups or events specifically for carers. If you would like to join one or just want to know more please contact the organiser as shown. If you are aware of any events, you can fill out the form below.
If you don't see anything in your area please contact MND Connect as we may be able to put you in touch with other organisations and services local to you.

Carers Support Sessions
Organiser: Colin Pearson
Our Carers Support Sessions bring together carers and those undertaking supporting roles for a person living with MND from our Cleveland, Hambleton & Richmondshire, York, Scarborough & Bridlington and Hull & East Yorkshire Groups, however we are a friendly and inclusive group and welcome people from all over the country to our sessions.
Our meetings are held several times a month, typically on the 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays of the month between 8pm & 9pm (dependant on speakers availability).
A variety of subjects and topics have been covered ranging from Sleep, Intimacy, Touch Relaxation Techniques, in addition to our informal 'Care, Share & Relax' sessions.
Our sessions are relaxed and supportive, at the end of the day to allow you time to focus on your own well-being as well as build relationships with other local people undertaking similar caring/supporting roles and include a mix of participants. Run by the Area Support Co-ordinator and our local Groups Carers Champions, along with professionals and speakers depending on the subject matter we hope you will feel invited to join us and take advantage of these sessions as and when you feel appropriate.
Throughout the Autumn will look at 'Compassion Fatigue', 'Ask the Specialist Nurses' and 'Planning for/looking towards the future' with Co-op Legal Services.
To be added to our distribution list for future events please make contact by email address above, or check out our local carers support page on Facebook - MND Association Carers Support - Cleveland, North & East Yorks or search @CarersCNEY
East Midlands MND Carers Support Zoom Meeting
Organiser: Rachel Norman
Every 3rd Wednesday of the Month from 13:00- 15:00 as a drop in virtual session for anyone currently caring for someone living with mnd and bereaved carers of people with mnd.
This is a gentle space for people to connect with each other, to share concerns, asks questions and talk about their journeys. The zoom meeting code and link are the same each month and there is no requirement to stay for the during of the meeting. We are very aware that people that currently have caring responsibilities may need to leave to attend to the person they care for at any point and this is both welcomed and common place.
Meeting ID: 996 3110 2710
If you haven't used zoom before please get in touch and we can help you step by step and let you have a practice beforehand. This event is open to any carers past or present of people with mnd in the East Midlands.
Support after loss - virtual peer support group for bereaved carers who has lost someone with MND
Organiser: Carmen Brown
Begins: 21/09/2020 - 10:00-11:30am
Are you a bereaved carer, who has looked after a loved one with MND? Support is especially important during these challenging times.
We are holding virtual peer support groups, specifically for bereaved carers across Essex (piloting and running approximately 6 weekly, alternating between day and evening times). This group will provide the opportunity for you to socialise and connect with others who are also coping with loss and share advice, thoughts, feelings and also memories of your loved ones. This will very much offer a ‘light touch’ approach to supporting people through their grief and help build confidence and reduce isolation. Even if you can’t stay for the whole session, why not drop in and introduce yourself.
For some people, particularly those who are recently bereaved, attending a virtual group may be too much too soon.
For further information, dates and joining instructions contact Carmen Brown, Area Support Coordinator via email or on 01604 800659.
Gloucestershire and South West Carer's Group

‘Thinking Ahead‘ led by Dr Emma Husbands, Consultant in palliative medicine.
Emma will explain ways that people can express their wishes and make plans for their future care and treatment. There will be an opportunity to discuss concerns and ask questions in a supportive environment
Monthly Carers Meeting in Greater Manchester

Carers, Coffee and Chat Drop-in – via Zoom – carers only of people with MND
Organiser: Carmen Brown
When: Second Tuesday of each month 2pm – 3pm
Dates: 13 October, 10 November, 8 December 2020
Are you currently looking after a loved one with MND? Support is especially important during these challenging times and we understand how important it is to also care for the carer.
We are therefore holding monthly ‘Carers, Coffee and Chat drop in’ groups. This is available specifically for carers of people with MND across all of Hertfordshire. It would be great to welcome carers for the full hour, but if people can just drop in for a small time, they would be more than welcome. This will provide the opportunity to come together, share some useful tips and information, meet new people and gain peer support.
For more information or joining instructions, contact Carmen Brown, Area Support Coordinator. Alternatively, contact your local branch for details of this group and other virtual support groups.
