What is MND?
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease which affects the brain and the spinal cord. It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk, swallow and eventually breathe. 5,000 people are currently living with MND in the UK. There is no cure. Take a look at our key facts and information.
How do I register, and do I have to pay?
To register you will need to complete the form above and claim your free t-shirt along with your Mission 5000 fundraising pack to get you started. You do not need to pay to take part in the challenge. We hope people will take part and raise money to support families affected by MND.
Can I join as a team?
Yes, you can! The more the merrier. Just let us know when you register that you're taking part as a team.
Can I take part if i'm under 18?
Yes you can! We will ask for your parent or guardian’s consent before you take on the challenge.
Can wheelchair users take part?
Yes, the challenge is flexible and open to everyone and people can cover the miles however they wish. Your dedication in raising awareness and vital funds is what really counts.
How many miles do I have to do?
It's totally up to you how many miles choose pledge. Whether you aim for 10 miles or 100 miles, each mile will contribute to our team target of 5000 miles.
How can I track my miles ?
You can track your miles via the Strava app , using the Mission 5000 tracker or by joining the Mission 5000 Challenge Hound group.
When using Challenge Hound, once you've joined the team - any miles tracked using your connected fitness app will be added to our team Mission 5000 target, or you can add your miles manually.
Do I have to send proof of my miles?
No, we trust that you will be honest about the amount of miles you have completed! You'll find a tracker in our fundraising zone to help you keep track of your miles, as well as other useful materials.
How do I set up a JustGiving page?
It's super easy to set on up your JustGiving page, just visit the link here. Don't forget to share your page with your friends, family, colleagues and on social media. You can even connect your JustGiving up with your Strava account!
How do I get a medal?
Once you raise over £100, you will need to complete a short form to claim your limited edition 2022 Mission 5000 medal. We'll send this to participants after the challenge has been completed.
Can the money I raise go towards a Tribute Fund or Fightback Fund?
Yes, if you'd like the money you raise to be recorded in a loved ones tribute or fightback fund just email fundraising@mndassociation.org with your details, the name of the fund and a link to your fundraising page and the team will organise that for you.
Where does my sponsorship money go?
There is no minimum sponsorship target to take part in the challenge. Every penny counts. The more money you can raise, the more support we can provide for people living with MND today. What should I do if I’m worried about MND?
MND Connect is our charity funded helpline and can offer information and support on all aspects of motor neurone disease (MND). MND Connect is available Monday to Friday between 9am - 5pm and 7pm - 10:30pm. Calls to this number are free from landlines and mobile phones within the UK and do not appear on itemised bills.
