With just a week to go until he starts his latest 7 in 7 Challenge for MND charities Kevin Sinfield CBE says he is 'fit and healthy’ and ‘ready to give it everything he’s got.’
In a press conference earlier today, rugby league legend Kevin, who is a patron for the MND Association, said the team is now in the final stages of its preparations for 7 in 7: Together which starts in Bury St Edmunds on 1 December.
He said this year’s challenge was focussed on pulling communities together to ensure people with MND and their families feel ‘the love and support’ which people across the UK and Ireland have for them.
The challenge will see Kevin and his team attempt to complete seven ultra marathons in seven regions of the UK and Ireland in just seven days to raise money for six MND charities, including the MND Association. To date, Kevin’s challenges have raised more than £10 million.
He said: “I want people with MND to know that we'll be there fighting with them. We know MND doesn’t have any boundaries which is why we visit different places to show this community how much love and support there is for them.
“This challenge is all about the people and the conversations we have are what keep us going. But it’s a really tough challenge. The travel is hard, but we’ll always give it everything we’ve got. I won't let anyone down.”
As he heads to the start line at Bury Rugby Club on Monday morning, Kevin said thoughts of his friend and former teammate Rob Burrow CBE who died from MND in June 2024 won’t be far from his mind.
“It’s hard that Rob isn’t here, but I hold onto the memories and the laughs we had along the way. In the really tough moments when I think of him I know he’ll drive us all on.
“Arriving in Leeds on Sunday will be very special.”
From Bury St Edmunds, Kevin and the team will visit Ipswich, Cork, Sheffield, Swansea Workington, Whitehaven and Dundee before ending on 7 December in Leeds.
