Producers of popular TV show The Split have been given an insight into motor neurone disease (MND) by members of the MND community, ahead of an MND storyline on the show.

Series three of the BBC1 programme, which started in April 2022, sees character ‘Lennie’ seek a divorce from her husband after she receives the news she has been diagnosed with MND. Lennie, a surgeon, also decides to leave her profession after she notices MND symptoms in her hands.

Ahead of filming, Cath Muir, who has MND, was able to meet with members of The Split production team to help them understand the emotional and physical impacts of the disease.

Cath’s husband Ian was also able to share his experiences of being Cath’s husband and carer to actor Clarence Smith, who plays Lennie’s husband ‘Felix’.

About the experience, Cath said:

“It was great to speak to the team making The Split. It was all very enjoyable, and I hope informative for them as accurate portrayal of MND is so important, particularly with lesser known issues.”
