The Francis Crick Institute, London
Professor Rickie Patani set up his lab in 2013. In 2017, he moved his lab to the Francis Crick Institute, on secondment from UCL. Professor Patani now has a team of 14, receiving funding from the MND Association.
The Francis Crick Institute is a unique partnership of six of the world’s leading biomedical research organisations, formerly known as the UK Centre for Medical Research and Innovation. The Institute, which opened in 2016, has 1,500 staff, including 1,250 scientists, and an annual budget of over £100 million, making it the biggest single biomedical laboratory in Europe.
The Institute aims to respond to fast-moving changes in the medical sciences by encouraging collaboration between disciplines and accelerating the translation of scientific research from the laboratory to hospitals and pharmacies.
The institute is named after scientist Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, who shared the 1962 Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine with James Watson and Maurice Wilkins.
