A keen runner, father of three and husband; at 36 years old James was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. A disease with no cure.

I’m James, and at 36 I should be planning the future with my wife Carly and three children. Instead, I have been diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND). There is no cure. Soon it will take my life and I won’t be there for my children, I won’t be here to see them grow up.

I’d always taken care of myself, staying fit and healthy. I used to run half marathons and never suspected the muscle twitches in my arms were signs of the disease. After months of tests, we were told I was dying from MND. That’s when Carly and I broke down.

We knew it moves fast. At best, you have a few years. At worst, months.

That’s why I’m asking for your help today, while I still can. MND takes away muscle control, and I’ve already lost most of the strength in my arms so have had to stop work as a barber. Over time, I will lose my independence and the ability to speak, eat and breathe. Eventually, I will lose my life.

I need help to wash and dress myself, or make a cup of tea. I still try to help get the kids ready for school and play with them when they get back. But each day these ordinary moments with my family are becoming more impossible.

We have to fight back. And beat MND.

Please donate to the MND Association. They’re the leading UK charity funding ground-breaking research to find treatments, and one day, a cure for MND. They also provide support to help people like me and our families to cope too.

Your gift today will help bring a cure for MND closer.

It’s too late for me. My time is limited but I hold on to the hope that others won’t have to go through this. Knowledge is advancing all the time but we need to speed up research. That’s why every pound raised matters.

Please donate to the MND Association today, to stop MND from devastating families like mine.

Will you be one of the people who makes that cure possible?

Thank you,

James

Dr Nick Cole, Head of Research at the MND Association explains how your donation could help.

“We’re fighting MND on every front. We’re funding ground-breaking research that will mean we can one day save the lives of people like Alex. But MND researchers need your support to make that happen.

“And until we find a cure, we’ll need to keep providing life-changing support and practical advice to people diagnosed with this devastating disease, and their families. Will you help them with a donation too?”

Yes, I want to help beat motor neurone disease today.
