The Motor Neurone Disease Association has been awarded the prestigious Impactful Grant of the Year at the Association of Charitable Organisations Annual Awards 2025.

Our Cost of Living Support Fund, which has provided vital financial relief to thousands of people living with MND and Kennedy’s disease, was recognised at the ceremony held at The BMA House, London.

The £500 grant, which launched in 2023 in response to the cost of living crisis, can be put towards the cost of essentials, including household bills and food shopping and is not means tested.

MND Association Head of National Support Services Pauline Matheson-Marks said: “Already this year, more than 1,300 people have benefitted from our Cost of Living Support Fund. Since it launched, we have provided almost £2 million to people with MND who are in need.

“We do not believe in dictating what the money should be spent on - it is there to help towards covering the soaring cost of essentials, so people aren’t forced to make impossible choices like skipping meals, cutting back on essential assistive equipment and lowering the heating.”

During the ceremony, the judge shared: “The MND Association has shown real courage in providing cost-of-living grants when they are needed most - ensuring no one has to justify their need for dignity, warmth, and basic comfort.”

Diana Keys is living with MND and was awarded a cost of living grant. She said: “This grant has been a major help with winter heating, as during the colder months my symptoms worsen.

“Some people don’t realise this basic support is available but it’s so wonderful. It really makes a difference.”
