2025 vaccine eligibility changes
In November 2024, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) recommended that automatic eligibility for the two Covid-19 vaccine rollouts in 2025 (spring and autumn) would be restricted to:
people aged over 75
residents of care homes for older people
people with compromised immune systems.
Previously, people classified as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV), which included people diagnosed with MND, were also automatically eligible for the vaccine. That’s no longer the case, so people with MND are not automatically eligible unless they fall into one of the categories above.
What to do if you’re concerned about your Covid-19 risk
If you’re concerned you may be at high risk from Covid-19, speak to your consultant or GP. They can advise you on your level of risk and next steps.
People affected by MND can call the MND Association’s MND Connect helpline on 0808 802 6262 for advice and support relating to vaccination, or any other aspect of MND. The helpline is open Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm.
Can a health professional still refer me for the vaccine?
Yes. It’s essential health professionals make the right clinical decisions for each person they care for, based on their individual circumstances. When a health professional, such as a consultant or GP, judges someone with MND is at high risk from Covid-19, they should make a referral for vaccination.
In those instances, its vital local systems accommodate those referrals, just as they would any other treatment a healthcare team prescribes for an individual.
