5 May 2026 News
The First Minister of Wales has signed our pledge to make Amser i MND – or, in English, Time for MND – in the runup to the 2026 Senedd election.
Eluned Morgan, the Leader of Welsh Labour since 2024, has committed to make a difference to people affected by MND if she is re-elected.
Party leaders Dan Thomas, of Reform UK Wales, Darren Millar, Welsh Conservatives, Anthony Slaughter, Wales Green Party, have also completed the e-action.
Additionally, we have also received a high amount of support from senior Plaid Cymru candidates, including party health spokesperson Mabon ap Gwynfor and Jane Dodds from the Welsh Liberal Democrats.
In total, 75 candidates have signed up from Welsh Labour, Plaid Cymru, Reform, Welsh Conservatives, Welsh Liberal Democrats and the Green Party – spanning constituencies across the country.
You can help us put MND on the map by writing to your local candidates asking them to make Amser i MND if elected by using the link below.
The election on 7 May presents a pivotal opportunity for our political work in Wales, with the number of Senedd Members increasing from 60 to 96, and a new government forming.
Our campaign launched in February, at a special event at Insole Court, near Cardiff, which brought together people affected by MND, Senedd candidates and existing Members of the Senedd (MS).
We presented our Manifesto for Wales to outline the five practical changes we need the next Senedd to deliver.
- Equitable service provision
This must come from multi-disciplinary care and support in the community.
- Accessible housing
So people can live with dignity and independence.
- Support for MND carers
When carers step in for statutory services they must be supported.
- Champion MND research
Currently, not everyone with MND in Wales can access clinical trials – this must change.
- The wider political landscape
A joined-up approach to MND service provision across the country. This includes a reconsideration of the funding settlement for Wales based on what’s needed, and the exploration of the devolution of welfare benefits.
Arin Gulsen, Senior Policy and Public Affairs Advisor for Wales, said: “It's brilliant to see candidates being approached to sign the Amser i MND pledge.
“We can’t thank our community enough for your help with the campaign.
"Politicians of all parties are key in championing effective health and social care and access to life-changing medicines for people with MND.
“We can make a huge difference in the next Senedd, but need as many receptive MS’s on board as possible
“It is why we are asking people in Wales to make a final effort and ensure your local candidates have MND on their agenda.
“If you’ve already taken part, you can still help by sharing the action around your networks.”
