30 December 2025 News
With the start of 2026 nearly here the new year’s resolution you make today could have the power to change lives.
Every year in the UK, more than 2,000 people are diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) a terminal, progressive, neurological disease which leaves many people unable to speak, eat and breathe. It’s a devastating disease and for many people there are no effective treatments – there is no cure.
People living with MND, their families and carers need our support, and this January the MND Association is encouraging people to join the fight against MND by signing up to some key fundraising events suitable for all ages and abilities.
Whether you’re keen to take part in your first marathon, a skydive or want to organise your own event, you could fund support for people with MND and their families as well as progress towards effective new treatments.
The MND Association’s Jodie Nash said: “During January 186 people will be diagnosed with MND. For them, the coming weeks and months will be uncertain and they will rely on support and information to help them navigate the challenges which lie ahead.
“By getting involved in one of our events in 2026 you will be doing something amazing – making sure that people with MND, their families and carers get access to support and information provided by the MND Association, while also funding vital research.
“And signing up today could be all the inspiration you need to help you reach your own personal goals and start the new year on a high.”
In 2026, there are six events to choose from – the Leeds Marathon, Royal Parks Half Marathon, North Yorkshire Action Challenge, Jurassic Coast Action Challenge or a skydive. Alternatively, you can organise your own event.
