MND Association patron Kevin Sinfield CBE has revealed the route for his seventh and final annual challenge to raise awareness and funds to support the MND community across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
7 in 7: The Grand Finale will see rugby league legend Kevin return to his roots across the north of England.
Once again, the 7 in 7 team will complete an ultra-marathon every day for seven days starting on 28 September at the home of Rugby League World Club champions Hull KR. They’ll visit each of the home grounds for the 12 English Betfred Super League clubs before finishing on the pitch at Old Trafford ahead of the Betfred Super League Grand Final in front of 70,000 fans.
Each day is divided into 7km blocks which Kevin must complete within the hour before starting his next block. The Extra Mile events will also return each day when Kevin and the team are joined by people affected by MND to complete a mile together.
Kevin and his team will be running in memory of his former Leeds Rhino teammate Rob Burrow CBE who died from MND aged 41 in June 2024.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast this morning, Kevin said the support over the past six years has been ‘awesome’.
[The last few years] have flown by. It has been a rollercoaster at times through the families we’ve met – so beautiful and warm, and yet so tough and tragic at times. We’ve seen support right across the home nations and people have been awesome. The money has gone a long way and we’re getting closer and closer, but we’ve got to keep pushing. We’ve got to try and find a cure.
Since the first annual challenge in 2020, Kevin and his team have raised over £11 million for MND charities. This year, the challenge will support the MND Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Darby Rimmer Foundation, MND Scotland and the Irish MND Association.
