Kevin Sinfield CBE paid a moving tribute to the ‘beautiful’ MND community in Leeds on Sunday afternoon having completed seven ultra marathons in seven days and raised more than £1.2 million.

Speaking to the crowd at Headingley, the home of the Leeds Rhinos, Kevin, who is patron of the MND Association, wiped away tears as he thanked the community and everyone who had taken the time to line the streets, cheer the team on and donate during the week-long challenge.

Kevin’s sixth 7 in 7 Challenge, called 7 in 7: Together, started in Bury St Edmunds on Monday and saw the team visit Ipswich, Cork, Swansea, Sheffield, Workington, Whitehaven, Dundee and York before ending the challenge in Leeds. At every stop along the way crowds of people turned out in huge numbers to show their support and love for Kevin, the team and the MND community with many of them waving pictures and sharing messages of support.

The money raised from the challenge will be donated to six MND charities including the MND Association.

Kevin, who was running in memory of his former Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow CBE, who died from MND last year, has vowed to ‘keep on fighting’ for the MND community and will take part in one final 7 in 7 Challenge in 2026.

MND Association Chief Executive, Tanya Curry said: “What Kevin and the team have achieved this week is just incredible. As well as the money which has been raised, which the Association will use to fund research and support people living with and affected by MND, the challenge has started conversations about MND which just wouldn’t have been possible before. The word hero is so often used but to our community he is exactly that – and we couldn’t be more grateful for everything he and the team continue to do to support us.”
