SPORTS fans will be able to tune into live coverage of Leeds Rhinos’ annual MND awareness match which is being shown live on Sky Sports and BBC Two this weekend.

The Rhinos will face local rivals Wakefield Trinity for the match on Saturday which will help to raise awareness of motor neurone disease (MND). This year’s match is being played just days before the first anniversary of the death of Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow CBE who died from MND in June last year aged just 41.

Once again, the Rhinos will play in a kit which has been designed especially for the game featuring an image of Rob, together with the names of the 196 players who played alongside Rob during his long and illustrious career. The design, which has been approved by the Burrow family, also features the names of his wife Lindsey and their children, Maya, Macy and Jackson. The shirt has been produced in partnership with the team’s official kit suppliers, Oxen with £10 from the sale of every replica shirt being donated to the MND Association.

The MND Association’s Director of Income Generation, Jo Coker said: “The bonds of friendship between Rugby League and the MND community continue to grow stronger and stronger and we are so grateful to the Leeds Rhinos for hosting this special match to help raise awareness of MND.

“Thanks to them, hundreds of thousands of sports fans will not only be able to watch what promises to be a thrilling match, but also learn more about MND, a disease which affects more than 5,000 people in the UK at any time.

“We are, and always be, grateful to Rob, his family, the Leeds Rhinos and the wider community for everything they have done to support us. The match will be a fitting tribute to Rob and his extraordinary legacy which drives us and inspires us all.”

The match kicks off at 4.30pm and replica shirts are available from store.therhinos.co.uk
