Over 300 runners supporting the MND Association undertook the challenging Cardiff half marathon last weekend (Sunday 5 October).

Association runners were among the 29,000-strong group which took on the scenic 13.1 mile course across the Welsh capital in the sunshine, passing iconic landmarks like Cardiff Castle, Principality Stadium and the Senedd. The event is one of Europe’s largest half marathons.

More than £135,000 has been raised by runners who took part for the MND Association, with the donation total still climbing.

Helping to raise the spirits of runners at mile six was the DVLA choir, which includes current and former colleagues from the DVLA. The Government agency, which has offices in both Swansea and Birmingham, chose the MND Association as its Charity of Choice for 2025 following a successful vote among its 6,000 staff.

DVLA staff members Laura Lawson, Rhodri Morris, Kieran Beaumont and Darryl Brown went one step further by taking part in the event.

While I don't have a personal connection to the charity, I wanted to use this challenge as a chance to support a cause that truly matters.

On a personal level, this is about pushing my own boundaries. Running a half marathon is no small feat. For me it represents a commitment to improving my fitness, discipline, and mental strength. My training has had its ups and downs with a few injuries along the way, including a calf issue I'm currently dealing with. But I'm fully committed to completing this challenge. A sore calf won't stand in my way.

Wearing the MND Association vest will be a proud moment. I'll know that every step helps raise awareness and funds for a worthy cause.

While I haven't been personally affected by MND, I've seen the incredible work the charity does to support those living with this devastating condition. I'm honoured to contribute to their mission.

Also taking part was Rob Tiffney, who completed an epic 5,000 miles in 500 days challenge just six weeks ago. While some prefer to spend their birthday with their feet up, Rob chose to mark his 50th birthday by running the iconic half marathon.

I didn’t really want a party so there is no better way for me to celebrate my 50th than by taking part in the Cardiff Half in support of the MND community.

MND Association's Cardiff and Vale branch organised cheer points, supporting and encouraging runners throughout the event.

We look forward to next year's event and would like to thank all runners and supporters.
