We’re asking candidates in the 2026 Senedd election to take our pledge and make Amser i MND – or, in English, time for MND.

The election on 7 May presents a pivotal opportunity for our political work in Wales, with the number of Senedd Members increasing from 60 to 96, and a new government forming.

And so, we’re asking candidates to sign the pledge now, committing to make a difference to people affected by MND if they’re elected.

Our campaign launched in February, at a special event at Insole Court, near Cardiff, which brought together people affected by MND, Senedd candidates and existing Members of the Senedd (MS).

We presented our Manifesto for Wales to outline the five practical changes we need the next Senedd to deliver.

Our key asks:

  1. Equitable service provision
  • This must come from multi-disciplinary care and support in the community.
  1. Accessible housing
  • So people can live with dignity and independence.
  1. Support for MND carers
  • When carers step in for statutory services they must be supported.
  1. Champion MND research
  • Currently, not everyone with MND in Wales can access clinical trials – this must change.
  1. The wider political landscape
  • A joined up approach to MND service provision across Wales. This includes a reconsideration of the funding settlement for Wales based on what’s needed, and the exploration of the devolution of welfare benefits.

Jennifer Watkins, National Campaigns Manager for the MND Association, said: “People with MND in Wales and their loved ones deserve better support across the board.

“We need politicians of all parties to champion effective health and social care, along with access to life-changing medicines.

“With MS support, a huge difference can be made in Wales, and in due course we will be asking our supporters to join the campaign.”

Following the launch, attendees took part in an informal session with members of the local MND community, giving them opportunity to talk to people with MND living in Cardiff and the surrounding area, learn more about the challenges they face, and discuss how the next Senedd can help deliver meaningful improvements.

Arin Gulsen, Senior Policy and Public Affairs Advisor for Wales, added: “This year’s Senedd election is arguably the most important Wales has faced to date.

“With polls suggesting a potential transformation in the make-up of the Senedd, it’s an exciting moment to engage with candidates across all political parties and promote Amser i MND.”
