Beyond the Swallow: Investigating the impact of swallowing difficulties on caregivers and identifying support needs

Swallowing difficulties, also called dysphagia, is often seen in people living with MND. The researchers would like to carry out interviews to better understand the experiences of people who care for someone with dysphagia. The researchers would like to identify practical challenges faced by carers, and what support and training they feel is currently lacking. The study hopes to identify gaps in current healthcare provision and propose ways to improve these services.

How will this study help people with and affected by MND now and/or in the future?

The researchers hope that the results of this study will provide a clearer understanding of the varied experiences of people who care for someone with swallowing difficulties. They hope to identify ways to improve training and support systems for carers and families.
