Using computer models to help predict care needs in MND
Motor neuron disease (MND) is a condition that changes over time, affecting how a person moves, speaks, and breathes. These changes mean that people living with MND often have to make important choices about their future care, such when to start using a wheelchair or a feeding tube.
Researchers at the University of Sheffield have created computer models to help predict when these changes might happen for an individual. These are called personalised predictions. This study aims to find out how people with MND feel about this kind of information. The research will look at how and when these predictions should be shared by doctors, what support is needed to make these conversations easier for people with MND and to help them make decisions about their future care.

How will this study help people with and affected by MND now and/or in the future?
The researchers hope that this study will help to inform how healthcare professionals communicate about MND and help people with MND and their families plan for the future.
Taking Part
What does taking part involve?
People living with MND and caregivers who choose to take part will be asked to attend a 60-minute online interview with the researchers, where they will discuss their thoughts on the personalised predictions and how this information should be shared with people with MND.
Healthcare professionals who choose to take part will be invited to join a 60-minute online focus group alongside other healthcare professionals.
Who can take part?
People living with MND
Current or bereaved (within the last 5 years) informal caregivers
Healthcare professionals involved in the care of people living with MND
All participants must be over the age of 18 and able to understand written and spoken English.
