In Northern Ireland, as ever people living with MND, their families and carers drive our focus and areas of work. Our four main focus areas for the next 12 months will be:
- The provision of appropriate housing for people living with MND in Northern Ireland, particularly relating to issues around the Disabled Facilities Grant.
- Supporting people living with MND and their carers, especially unpaid carers, to get the adequate help and support, including respite care they need and deserve.
- The provision of genetic testing for people living with MND and their families.
- Ensuring that people living with MND get timely diagnoses and equitable access to services and treatments in Northern Ireland.
We will do this through our influencing work at all levels in Northern Ireland, including the 11 Councils in, the Northern Ireland Assembly and at Westminster. We are very lucky to have our MND champions within each of the main political parties represented at the Northern Ireland Assembly and at Westminster. We are very grateful to them for their ongoing support.
We will be attending the party conferences of the main political parties represented at the Northern Ireland Assembly and at Westminster.
We will be calling on MLAs to ensure that people living with MND in Northern Ireland have the best quality of life by ensuring the above mentioned 4 areas of focus are at the forefront of their work in the next year.
If you would like to meet us at conference or at a time that suits you please email our Senior Policy and Public Affairs Adviser for Northern Ireland, Patrick Malone here.
