Rugby legend turned MND campaigner, Rob Burrow MBE, who is living with motor neurone disease (MND) has received the 2000th Points of Light award from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak following his work to raise awareness of MND.
The Prime Minister’s Points of Light award recognises outstanding individuals and people who are making real change in their community.
Rob Burrow, who played for Leeds Rhinos, was diagnosed with MND in 2019 at the age of 37.
Determined to raise awareness of the disease, Rob has used his profile to highlight MND through various media appearances. From his intimate documentary with the BBC to his autobiography Too Many Reasons to Live, Rob and his family have bravely shared the realities of living with MND.
Rob also publicly supported the United to End MND campaign which saw the Government announce it would invest £50 million over five years into targeted MND research.
“Time is not a luxury the MND community have. I would like to accept this award on behalf of my fellow 5000 people with MND in this country and ask the Prime Minister that when he stands in the House of Commons and sees his fellow MPs that he imagines six more people behind every one of those 650 MPs, each with the worst possible diagnosis in front of them.”
