Alan Graham MBE
My mother was first diagnosed in 1992. My wife, Jenny (who is an Association visitor), and I cared for my mother until her eventual passing some three years later. For the past 26 years, supported by the Association and the North West London Branch (of which I was joint founder), I have been engaged with people living with and affected by MND.
I have been an elected trustee of the Association for over 15 years and was a former Chair. During that time I chaired the Governance Committee and was for 10 years the Association’s appointed Director on the Board of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations. I was honoured to be awarded an MBE in 2011 "for services to the Voluntary Sector and the MND Association".
I am a trustee, and chair the Finance Committee, of Watford Peace Hospice, and I hold other current public sector positions, including membership of the Boards of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and The Insolvency Service, both of whose Audit and Risk Committees I chair. I am also a member of the Advisory Council of The Charity Bank, a member of the Football Association Disciplinary (Anti-Discrimination) Chairmans' Panel, and have recently been appointed a Trustee, and member of the Audit Committee, of the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
I am still an active branch member and the current Treasurer for the North West London Branch. I continue to believe passionately about the organisation, its mission, objectives, governance and care and research agendas. I look forward to contributing further, in any way that I can, to the achievement of the Association’s vision of a "World free from MND".
