Act to Adapt Campaign
“People’s needs for support are going to increase and it’s no good waiting until they’re absolutely desperate.” Graham, a carer.
We promise that we won’t rest until people with MND are heard. We know that it is vital that people with MND receive timely home adaptations so they can live safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes. However, many people with MND are trapped in inaccessible homes because councils are failing to provide sufficient support. Some have died waiting for adaptations. This must change now.
Our Act to adapt campaign seeks to influence local authorities to improve the provision and delivery of housing adaptations. The campaign calls on councils to introduce a fast-track process for people with MND and remove the means test for adaptations under £5,000.
The campaign has already led to a historic vote in the Senedd to introduce a fast-track and non-means tested housing adaptations process for people living with MND in Wales. In February, 25 MPs were represented at the online AGM led by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on MND, which focussed on access to housing adaptations.
We need your help to take this campaign forward this year and keep the pressure up so more councils listen and act. Next, we will be setting up roundtables with stakeholders in ten target council areas and developing grassroots campaigning groups to influence local councils.
This project will cost approximately £50,000 over the next year to cover staff time, materials and expenses.
