The MND Association raises money to support people living with motor neurone disease (MND) and accelerate progress into MND research in many ways, including face-to-face fundraising.

This simple, cost-effective method of fundraising allows the Association to connect with new supporters from all backgrounds, raising awareness of MND and vital funds at the same time.

A specialist agency is supporting us with this work and will be fundraising on our behalf – inside shopping centres, supermarkets and leisure centres. They’re inviting people to join Cure Finders – our online community which has raised £1 million for MND research since its launch in 2020.

You’ll find more information about face-to-face fundraising in the information below but if you have any additional questions, please do contact us at [email protected]

Frequently asked questions

What is face-to-face fundraising?

Face-to-face fundraising allows charities to talk to new supporters and members of the public who are interested in learning more about their cause.

Over the past 20 years, this method of fundraising has led to millions of pounds being raised for numerous charities, while also helping to raise awareness among new audiences and communities.

The money we raise through our face-to-face fundraising will help to fund ground-breaking research projects which will take us closer to potential new treatments for MND.

Where will the fundraisers be located?

The fundraisers will have permission to work on private land, whether that’s a shopping centre, railway station or a leisure centre. There are strict rules in place around where and how they can operate, for example, they must stay within an agreed area and close to their promotional stand.

Are the fundraisers employed by you?

The MND Association is working with one of the largest agencies in the UK. While the fundraisers you see will be wearing MND Association branding, they are employed by the agency and not the Association. They will have completed extensive training and been fully briefed about MND, the needs of our community and the MND Association’s work. Both the MND Association and the agency we are working with are members of the Fundraising Regulator and we abide fully with its code of practice. Mystery shoppers will also be used to ensure fundraisers offer the highest standards of customer care.

What will the money you raise from this be used for?

Through this initiative, we are encouraging people to support our work in MND research by becoming a Cure Finder. Launched in 2020, Cure Finders gives people the chance to learn more about the progress we are making in MND research with exclusive updates from researchers on the front line. To date, supporters of Cure Finders have donated more than £1 million and helped to fund important projects which are making a big difference in the fight against MND.

How does it work?

If you are approached by a fundraiser and you wish to donate, you will be asked for some information which will be entered onto an online donation form. You will also be asked for your payment card details and to confirm whether you want to donate monthly or annually. Once complete, you will receive a confirmation email and a follow-up call from a member of our team a few days later from 01604 279934.

How do I know they are legitimate?

All fundraisers will display an ID card with their name, photograph and the details of the fundraising agency they work for. They will also be wearing MND Association branded clothing and there will be MND Association banners nearby. Our fundraisers will only ask for regular donations and they will invite you to sign up using an online form as they are not authorised to collect cash or cheques. If in doubt, contact us at 01604 611891.

Are my personal details safe?

Donating by recurring card payment is safe and easy. All of your details are encrypted and the processing of card payments uses systems and procedures which are compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).
